About Reflexology
Reflexology is a revival of an ancient therapy discovered and developed by the Chinese 5,000 years ago. It was also practiced in the Middle East by the ancient Egyptians who respected it as a curative therapy.
In the 1930s in St.Petersburg, Florida, an American physiotherapist, Eunice Ingham, introduced Reflexology to America. As well as being a practitioner, she set up the International Institute of Reflexology, which still teaches Reflexology throughout America
The principle of this therapy is scientific in that by giving deep, controlled compression with the thumb to reflex points on the feet, hands or ears, corresponding to certain parts of the body tensions and blockages are released, allowing the free flow of vital energies and helping the body to heal itself.
Reflexology can bring relief to sufferers of many disorders such as glaucoma,
tinnitus, thyroid dysfunction, asthma, diabetes, sciatica, arthritis, etc. It is an entirely natural therapy without painful side-effects. Even a person in good health will experience an increase in energy from a series of treatments.
Our Purpose
The Reflexology Association of Oregon was set up to further the understanding, appreciation and promotion of Reflexology, to help newly qualified Reflexologists, and help members of the public to find a qualified practitioner in Oregon.
Legislation
On June 11, 2007, Governor Kulongoski signed Senate Bill 399 exempting Reflexology from regulation by the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists. The Bill
came into effect on January 1, 2008. Qualified Reflexologists now have the freedom to practice Reflexology as an independent therapy, without having to get a massage license.
Oregon is the 34th State to enjoy this freedom!
