About Reflexology

Reflexology is a revival of an ancient therapy discovered and developed by the Chinese 5,000 years ago. It was also practiced in the Middle East by the ancient Egyptians who respected it as a curative therapy.

TRANSLATION READS "DON'T HURT ME." THE PRACTITIONER'S REPLY: "I SHALL ACT SO YOU PRAISE ME."

In the 1930s in St.Petersburg, Florida, an American physiotherapist, Eunice Ingham, introduced Reflexology to America. As well as being a practitioner, she set up the International Institute of Reflexology, which still teaches Reflexology throughout America

The principle of this therapy is scientific in that by giving deep, controlled compression with the thumb to reflex points on the feet, hands or ears, corresponding to certain parts of the body tensions and blockages are released, allowing the free flow of vital energies and helping the body to heal itself.

REFLEXOLOGY can bring relief to sufferers of many disorders. It is an entirely natural therapy without painful side-effects. Only the hands are used to give a treatment, making it a safe, simple and effective method for the holistic healing of the body.

CANCER
Reflexology has proved beneficial during chemotherapy and radiation treatment in cancer, reducing pain, nausea, vomiting, anxiety and insomnia.

PREGNANCY & BIRTH
Reflexology eases pregnancy, delivery and post-partum conditions.

MENTAL HEALTH
Reflexology is beneficial in mental health care and geriatric care.

Reflexology helps the recovery process in post-operative cases.

Our Purpose

The Reflexology Association of Oregon was founded in 2004 by the President to further the understanding, appreciation and promotion of Reflexology. We wish to help newly qualified practitioners and help members of the public find a qualified practitioner. We are always at your disposal to answer any questions.

Legislation

The Founder-President of the Association submitted a Bill to the Senate in 2007, sponsored by Senator Betsy Johnson, requesting exemption from regulation by the Massage Board.  On June 11, 2007, Governor Kulongoski signed Senate Bill 399, exempting Reflexology from regulation by the Massage Board, which became law on January 1, 2008.  Reflexologists in Oregon are now free to practice Reflexology as an independent therapy without being forced to get a massage license. Oregon was the 34th State to enjoy this freedom.

The Reflexology Association of Oregon is State-registered and is a 501(c) (6) non-profit organization.
